The Medicine Hat Community Housing Society is recruiting members for the: COMMUNITY COUNCIL ON HOMELESSNESS (CCH), which serves as the Community Advisory Board on homelessness-related issues in Medicine Hat. 

Potential members will have demonstrated leadership, decision-making and community involvement, a history of fostering collaboration with community partners, an understanding of homelessness, an appreciation of the challenges faced by individuals and families experiencing homelessness, and believe that homelessness can be ended in our community.

General Description The Maintenance General (MG) position performs the following tasks for the Medicine Hat Community Housing Society (including, but not limited to):
·       Cleaning (20%)
·       Maintenance (10%)
·       Grounds keeping (70%)
This position contributes to the overall quality and upkeep of MHCHS owned, provincially and municipally owned properties.

Summary of Responsibilities:
   
1.     Perform cleaning and grounds maintenance if required or arranging with grounds maintenance crew to address all grounds related work required including, snow removal, grass cutting, watering and providing tenants with notices accordingly.   
2.     Cleaning/Janitorial Duties for all common areas and units if required. Responsible for garbage removal and general maintenance and clean-up of common areas, washrooms, hallways, stairwells and vestibules in all buildings as per the portfolio assigned. Performs other related duties as required.   
3.     The following tasks will be in collaboration with a Maintenance Specific person to ensure the utmost integrity of the maintenance related tasks that are required. 
a.    Boiler/mechanical issues 
b.    Electrical / Plumbing – complicated issues 
c.    Window and interior, exterior and closet door repairs 
d.    Any other related tasks that may require excelled skill level     

Required Skills and Competencies:
   
Experience and training 
·       Basic maintenance related skills 
·       1 - 3 years practical experience in grounds maintenance and cleaning 
·       Sensitive to the dignity of those in need of social housing 
·       A valid driver's license and clean driver's abstract 
·       Bondable and trustworthy 
·       Capable of effectively communicating both orally and in writing 
·       Basic computer and record keeping skills 
·       Knowledge of occupational health and safety related documentation 
·       Ability to assess hazards and take necessary steps to remove hazard 
·       Reporting and documenting Incidents as required 
·       Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision 
·       Ability to work in a highly motivated team environment 
·       Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks 
·       Ability to respond to escalated situations with composure, compassion and patience

Physical Requirements
 
·       Constant physical demands ranging from lifting and carrying to operating light machinery. 
·       Ability to work in some disagreeable environments.   

Travel Requirements
 
·       Use of personal vehicle for maintenance visits to MHCHS Properties in Medicine Hat and Redcliff.  Employees using personal vehicles for work travel will be reimbursed per mileage allowance in collective agreement.  Company vehicle will be provided if/when available.    

Overtime and/or Shift Requirements
 
·      Some after-hours call-out for maintenance emergencies and snow removal.
